Electroacupuncture in Gramercy, New York

Targeted Stimulation for Deeper, More Lasting Relief

Electroacupuncture is a clinically established extension of traditional acupuncture practice.

At Rock Acupuncture NYC, it is applied selectively for patients whose conditions require stronger or more sustained stimulation than manual needling alone provides.

The technique follows the same needle placement principles as traditional acupuncture. A small, controlled electrical current is applied between pairs of needles following insertion, amplifying stimulation at targeted points and producing a stronger, more consistent therapeutic response in the surrounding tissue.

How Electroacupuncture Works

The electrical current replicates the manual needle manipulation technique used in traditional acupuncture, with greater consistency and measurable control over stimulation parameters.

Frequency and intensity are calibrated to the clinical objective of each session:

  • Low-frequency stimulation promotes endogenous opioid release and supports sustained pain relief
  • Higher-frequency stimulation acts more directly on muscle tissue, reducing spasm and improving local circulation

Clinical research supports electroacupuncture’s effectiveness in the management of chronic pain, reduction of inflammation, and support of nerve regeneration in patients presenting with neuropathic conditions.

Who Benefits from Electroacupuncture

Electroacupuncture is indicated for patients presenting with:

  • Chronic musculoskeletal pain of significant duration
  • Peripheral neuropathy and nerve-related conditions
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation needs
  • Cases where traditional acupuncture has produced a limited or plateaued clinical response
  • Athletes requiring more intensive soft tissue recovery between training cycles or competition

The determination to use electroacupuncture is made on an individual clinical basis. Paul Lee conducts a full patient assessment and selects the treatment approach most appropriate to your presenting condition and treatment goals.

What to Expect During Treatment

Electroacupuncture sessions follow the same intake and assessment protocol as standard acupuncture treatment.

Following needle insertion at the selected points, leads are attached to the needle handles and connected to the electroacupuncture unit. The electrical stimulation is delivered at a controlled frequency and intensity. Patients typically describe the sensation as a mild rhythmic pulsing at the treatment site. All parameters are maintained within a safe and comfortable therapeutic range throughout the session.

Sessions run approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

Treatment response is assessed at each follow-up visit and the protocol is adjusted accordingly as the patient’s condition progresses.
